Week 6 Home Learning

Last week our focus was on toys from the past where we looked at the materials they were made from and whether these were naturally occurring or synthetic (made by man). It was a busy week in school as well and on Tuesday the Year 1 children enjoyed watching the Year 6 children take part in their socially distanced sports day. Because parents were not able to attend, we went out and watched them from afar, clapping their javelin throwing skills as well as their sprinting. The weather was just right as it was not too hot. The Year 6 children were rewarded afterwards with a visit from Joe Whippy the ice-cream man, where they bought themselves an ice-cream for their efforts!
At home we celebrated Alistair's birthday and the fact that Millie is finally now sleeping in the basket that we bought her back in February, although we have to place it in a certain doorway before she will make use of it! I hope you all had an enjoyable week too.

Week 5 Home Learning

I hope you all enjoyed the moving toys work last week, we had a lot of fun with it in school. Year 1 children investigated which surface would enable the car to travel furthest and fastest and we used two metre rulers to help measure the length the car travelled. We also had a go at making our own moving vehicles out of junk materials, using wooden spindles to create axles as well as cardboard circles for the wheels. The Year 1 children worked hard to make their vehicles move and were very pleased with what they had achieved.

Week 4 Home Learning

I hope you all had fun with the floating and sinking topic this week, we certainly had lovely weather for getting the water out in the garden. We were all very hot in school so having the water trays out was lovely. Year 1 children explored objects to see which ones floated and which ones sunk. It required careful observational skills and there were a few surprises which raised the question- why do apples float but pears sink? They did identify that size, material and shape were important factors as to whether things floated or not and one child suggested that salt water would help objects float!
At home this weekend I had to look after an unexpected visitor in the form of a little bird (sparrow) brought in by Millie who had somehow managed to catch it. The poor bird was a little shocked and its wing was slightly injured. Fortunately we managed to put the bird into a cardboard box with some water (plastic spoon) and some seeds so it could recover before releasing it back outside. I'm hoping that this is the last bird that Millie brings home and instead she will play with all the toys we have brought her!

Week 3 Home Learning

I hope you have all been having fun at home this week- the weather has been lovely and it has allowed us to go outside and look for words that have our phonics sounds in at school. We have also had some outdoor maths equipment out and made some lovely Father's Day Cards.
At home this weekend I have been busy, I washed my car with the help of Alistair, did some gardening, made my own homemade granola (the shop had run out!) and went for a trip to the seaside to meet my mum and dad from a safe distance and eat fish and chips. Millie has also been enjoying her latest toy but has not been able to scare away the cheeky squirrel who has been eating the strawberries from my garden this week!

Week 2 Home Learning

I hope you have all had a good week at home and enjoyed the work on puppets. This week the weather was not kind and the Year 1 children found Wednesday very hard because we did not make it outside to play at all due to the continuous rain! I am so pleased to see much drier and brighter weather. I have made the most of the warmer weather and been on a picnic and also to the seaside for an ice-cream. Below are two photographs from my trip. Unfortunately we forgot the towels so we found a patch of grass to play frisbee and bat and ball instead.
I'm also waiting for some new cat toys for Millie. She doesn't like rain either and has looked a little bored recently (probably because most of her balls have rolled away and are hidden around the house). Hopefully she won't have to wait too much longer for them to arrive and will play with them instead of trying to pounce on my feet!

Week 1 Learning

theI hope you have all enjoyed your first week of learning on our new topic toys, I've been up in the loft getting mine down ready for when we look at old toys later on this half term.
This week I have been in school teaching the Year 1 children- we have been getting used to how the classroom looks now as well as learning how be a super hero that protects our force field which helps keep us safe. We have also been practising our doctor hand washing in order to keep our hands nice and clean!
Despite the rainy and cooler weather, I did manage an evening bike ride this week. I took the photograph below which shows the sun beginning to set. I hope you have all managed to get outside too this week.

Welcome Back!

Hello! I hope you all had a lovely half term holiday and were able to enjoy this lovely, warm weather that we have had. I've had to fill the paddling pool a few times this week for my children but it's far too cold for me! We've also been out for a picnic- we managed to find a place which was nice and empty with a very friendly duck that wanted our sandwiches! I also set the tent up so Edward and Alistair could camp- they were a bit too scared to camp in the garden so we put the tent up in the lounge instead. They had great fun! Millie has spent the week sleeping (as usual) but has also started bringing me presents like bird feathers and twigs. She also keeps chasing the bees and flies in the garden but they are too quick for her! I hope you've all had fun too this week- do let me know what you've all been up to.

Kahoot Quiz

Mrs Dawes has put together a whole school Kahoot quiz. You can find the link and the code on the Class 2 Home Learning page.

Class 2 Learning at Home Week 4

Everyone has been busy this week and it's been lovely to see the work you have all been doing. Below are some photographs of your lovely work. Well done!
Below are some photographs of the fantastic flower printing that Mrs Nunn and I did with the children who have been coming to school. Their prints were based on the Andy Warhol 'Flowers' work that we looked at last week. Each child drew four designs, chose their best one and then drew the background onto one polystyrene tile and the flower onto another. We then printed the background and once it was dry, printed the flower on top. These are the results!

Class 2 Learning at Home Week 3

What fun you have all been having this week! Not only have you sent in some fantastic photos of your Van Gough Sunflower art work, but other activities you have all been up to. It is good to see so many of you learning science first hand in your gardens as well as getting out and enjoying this lovely weather. We've also enjoyed seeing photographs of you cooking and being creative as well as completing the activities set by Mrs Middlebrook and myself. Well done Everyone! Do keep sending in your lovely photographs to go on the class webpage. It makes us very happy to see your lovely smiling faces.

We hope you have all had a nice Easter break and been able to enjoy the lovely weather that we have been having. Thank you Emily for the little message you sent through the post just before the Easter break, it was a lovely surprise and we look forward to seeing you and the rest of Class 2 as soon as it is safe.

Below are some photos showing one of the activities that children who have been coming to school have been doing. They made Easter biscuits which were then iced with chocolate icing- yummy!

Honey also sent us her lovely Easter bunny poem that she has been working on. My favourite part is the 'Eating carrots yum, yum, yum' part. What is your favourite part? Well done Honey, this poem brought a smile to our faces.

Here is some work created by the children being cared for at school this week. The children created this with Mrs Maskell and Mrs Dawes on Thursday. Their aim was to share messages of staying safe and the importance of happiness.

A wonderful sentence written by a year one using words we are working on in our spellings this week. Super work!
Can you find the split digraphs in his sentence?
